Book review

Elizabeth Mollison, Australian by birth, has been coming to the Dordogne valley where she now lives for over fifty years and in this book describes the life she encountered when she first came. She records what is known of the history of the village of Le Roc, and conscious of what was rapidly changing she tells in great detail how the small farmers of the region worked when growing tobacco, producing walnuts, wine, ducks and geese, and making use of natural resources like mushrooms, truffles, herbs and other wild plants, not forgetting the importance of markets, fairs, customs, games and tall stories told in the winter evenings in the days before television.
